May is skin cancer awareness month. While basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma can be invasive, melanoma can be deadly. Tanning of any sort leads to these deadly skin cancer. It is helpful to screen yourself and your loved ones on a monthly basis. Yearly total skin exams will detect cancers at an early stage. Unless you are trained for years to diagnose skin cancer, it can be difficult to determine if something is going wrong. Change in a spot is important. ABCDEs are important. But, in the end, you need a dermatologist to evaluate your moles. All dermatologists are trained thoroughly and have the greatest skill in determining what is normal and what may be a problem. Please be sure to see your dermatologist for a total skin exam this month.
